I had a fuel leak on my 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 from the wires in the top of the fuel filter housing. These 2 wires power the fuel heater inside the canister. I removed the canister & fuel filter, cut the wires, removed 3 torx screws, and pulled the heater element out. I found an o-ring that fit the groove and reassembled with a new fuel filter and spliced the wires back together. Fuel leak is now fixed.
If you havn't had it yet, it will hit you at some point. These fuel heaters on the pre-filter assembly burn up and leak, causing the fuel pump to suck air into the fuel system.
