had our 1990 Geo metro 1.0 5 speed manual popping out of 5th gear while on the freeway consistently. found some info online but no videos. so i figured the least talking and the most straight forward, no b.s. diy video on how to fix it.
If you have a Geo Metro that starts up in third gear you have a faulty TCM. Symptoms include very low power when you first start the car and it works normally if you shift the car manually. If you have these problems you have a faulty C3 and C5 capacitor on the TCM. This fixed my car for sure.
I replace my shift lever, housing, and linkage on my 2000 chevy metro hatchback. I assume other FWD manual transmissions are similar. I got the parts from a 1989 or 1990 Pontiac Firefly with the same engine and transmission ( G10 and 5 spd manual.)
